Incremental Search Forward/Reverse Shortcuts
« on: February 21, 2008, 02:41:08 PM »
We've already described how incremental search can be used to highlight matches as you type (click here). After initiating an incremental search, special shortcut keys let you move forward and backward easily.

To search forward incrementally, use the i_search command (Ctrl+S). To search in reverse, use the reverse_i_search command (Ctrl+R). If you initially start searching forward with Ctrl+S and decide to search backward, Ctrl+R will begin searching backward. The opposite applies if you start searching backward and decide to search forward: just use Ctrl+S. In both cases, your search string is preserved.
