Cursor not visible in File Save As dialog box
« on: August 21, 2014, 04:40:59 pm »
The cursor is not visible in the "File name" field of "File Save As" dialog box.  For example, I select "File" --> "Save As" from them menu.  I then press the Left Arrow key a few times to back up and change a few characters in the file name.  I can't see where the cursor is positioned, and if I press the Delete key to delete some characters, or start typing some new characters, it is anybody's guess as to what will be deleted or where the new characters will be inserted.

Same here.
Not visible in FileOpen either.

While FileOpen or SaveAs is open with no cursor, switch to another app, then switch back to slick.
Now the cursor is visible.

I wonder how much these kind of bugs depend on the underlying Qt version and individual platform anomalies? Slick is using Qt 4.8.1 (2013-02-22), but the Qt project is already at 4.8.6 (2014-06-03). Of course, no one just updates an underlying platform version for its own sake in a complex software project, so this version discrepancy is not really surprising.

I appear to be the only one here that can reproduce this, so there may be something very machine/user setup specific about this bug.   I can also get it sometimes in v18, but weirdly inconsistently.   But not v17 or earlier, could anyone else confirm this behavior in v18?

I can reproduce here.

With v19, I get the behavior described by jporkkahtc

With v18, I get the cursor no matter what.

I see the same thing on my Windows 7 box.

With SE v19 I reproduce the behavior (this is on Win7 x64 with the x64 SE build).

With SE v18 (also x64 build) I see similar, but slightly different behavior.  The cursor is missing, but will appear briefly when I type or use the arrow keys.  It looks as if the cursor shows but when it starts a 'blink cycle' it never 'unblinks' (I hope that makes sense). Basically, when I type I see the cursor/caret/whatever for about a half second.  With v19 I do not see the cursor for even that half second after typing.

As jimlangrunner says, if I go to another app then back to the open dialog, the cursor behaves normally (for both v18 and v19).

For me, the problem does not occur at all in v18.  However, with v19, it happens every single time.  As others have said earlier, if I switch to a different application and come back, the cursor does appear.  I am running Windows 7 x64 SP1 and running the x64 version of SlickEdit.

This evening I will try it at home on Windows 8.1 to see if that makes any difference.

I tried it at home on my Windows 8.1 machine and the results were the same.  Consistently no cursor with v19 (happens every time).  And with v18 the problem never appears.

Thanks for the reports.  We should have a fix for this in the next release.

Thanks for the reports.  We should have a fix for this in the next release.

Fix verified in B2 (on Win7 x64).
