B2: Everything disappears while dragging tab to create new window
« on: September 08, 2014, 09:46:21 PM »
When I grab a file tab, and drag it to create a new window frame, everything except the menu and tool bars disappears while I'm dragging. Everything is fine after the fact.

OS Version: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation release 6.4 (Santiago)
Kernel Level: 2.6.32-358.23.2.el6.x86_64
Build Version: #1 SMP Sat Sep 14 05:32:37 EDT 2013
Processor Architecture: x86_64

We are using a semi-transparent window over that area. In future we will mask it so only the docking guide diamond and indicators are masked.

Are you at a low color-depth on your display. What can you tell me about your setup?

I'm using VNC, Slick says:

X Server Vendor: The X.Org Foundation
Memory: 55% Load, 13680MB/24715MB Virtual
Shell Info: /user/ryanw/apps/slickedit/19b/bin/secsh -i
Screen Size: 3840 x 1176

My VNC client says ColourLevel=pal8

Got a chance to try Windows RealVNC into my Ubuntu dev box tonight. Even at 64 colors (configured by using Advanced Options dialog, Display tab, turn off "Adapt to network speed" and adjust). Even when I manually adjusted colors down to 64, I could still see everything (didn't look great, but I wouldn't expect it to at that color depth). Only when I adjusted the slider down to minimum (8 colors) did I reproduce what you were describing.

Do you use RealVNC or some other client? Are your settings other than the default?

Interesting. I was just looking over the shoulder of one of our devs running Ubuntu in a vm and saw exactly what you are talking about. At least I have something a little more representative/reproducible now. :)

I'm running a RealVNC client on MacOS, and the server is TigerVNC running on RedHat Enterprise 6. I haven't configured the client, or the server for that matter.

I just tried Apple's native "Screen Sharing" app instead of RealVNC. Same problem. Maybe it's a setting on the TigerVNC server?

I am seeing this same issue in beta4 - 19.0.0.7

I am not using VNC, but I am using cygwin's X server on Windows.

I'm running SlickEdit on Red Hat 5.5.

I think the issue is a lack of transparency. I just applied a KDE theme that uses transparency, and that doesn't work either. I'd expect this might be a common problem for linux/VNC users. Can you remove the transparency effect, and go back to the way it was on V18?

I'm seeing the same thing with B5 running on RHEL v6.5 on a VMware v6.0.4 virtual machine running on Mac OSX 10.9.5

To reproduce just grab a document tab and drag it off the tab bar and poof everything between the toolbar and status bar goes away. If I drag the tab outside the bounds of the original document area, everything returns as normal - full color, not grayed. Drag it back and poof gone again. If while dragging, I hover the mouse pointer over the divider between existing documents in the split view, everything draws again, and disappears when I move the mouse. Once the mouse is released, everything draws and is fine.

The Mac version works as expected (although I'm not sure I like the grayed out background).
