Not in first column on entry
« on: April 24, 2014, 05:36:15 PM »
When I open SE and it opens all my previously opened files, the first displayed column on some files is not column 1. SE correctly places the cursor on the same line where it was when I closed SE, but for some of the buffers, the left hand column is not column 1. This isn't consistent. Sometimes it happens, some times is doesn't

I just opened SE with 10 files open and the column # of the left hand column is as follows for each file; 1, 55, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 20, 166.

Not the biggest problem in the world but annoying. Here are my particulars. I am opening SE in the 2560x1600 monitor but the behavior is the same regardless of which monitor I use.

It sounds like slick is "remembering" where you last had your cursor in the file when you last had them open.  That would be "normal" behavior.

I _believe_ you should be able to turn this off, but I won't bet money on that.

It does remember the column position but that isn't the issue.

Say that when I exit, the cursor is on line 12 column 45 and the first visible column on the left of the screen is column 1.

On occasion, not always, when I reenter the cursor is still on line 12 column 45 but the first visible column on the left might be column 20.

This morning when I entered, there were 6 buffers open. On 4 of them, the leftmost visible column was column 1. On the other two, it was some other column.

All it takes is hitting the home key (brief mode) to get the display right. Not the end of the world, just a minor annoyance.

I've seen this problem also. It seems to happen randomly. I started seeing it when I upgraded to version 18 last year.

Right. I never saw it before version 18.

Maybe the upcoming v19 will address this.

Maybe the upcoming v19 will address this. Let's wait and we will see an update here when that happens. If you don't see something soon, then please let us know.

Is there a workaround this yet?  I'm on ver 18 and seem to be experiencing this issue a lot.
