B6 Win X64. undocking Find dialog causes hang
« on: October 22, 2014, 11:42:02 am »
I normally keep my find dialog docked on the right. i wanted to undock it for some reason. When I click "Float" or uncheck "Dockable", the window clears and slick hangs.  Closing & re-opening slick has no effect. It still hangs & closes.

Can you screenshot your application window so I can see the layout that reproduces this? If I still can't reproduce it, then I would need your config-dir/vrestore.slk. Thanks.

I had something similar happen. I had the regex evaluator docked on the right side. When I try to float it I get:

and Slickedit exits.

You would need a debug exe to see that...

Are you saying that someone sent out the wrong image?

Nope. Just verified x86 and x64 for beta6 were not built with debug. If somebody sent you a debug exe at some point to track down a bug, then that would explain it.

I note that it only happens when I have no buffer open.

I'll play some more and see if I can find more.

Nope, this is not a special build. I got it from the beta download page. Here is the build information:

SlickEdit 2014 (v19.0.0.9 32-bit)
Build Date: September 29, 2014

Have you guys considered adding a unique build number? I used to have a pre-build script that would grab a number from a server. In addition to allowing all code to be tracked, a database on the server kept track of information about every build. It worked well.

To reiterate:
I normally keep my find dialog docked on the right. i wanted to undock it for some reason. When I click "Float" or uncheck "Dockable", the window clears and slick hangs.  Closing & re-opening Slick has no effect. It still hangs & closes.

Reproduce:  Dock & auto-hide the find dialog.  Close all open buffers.  Spring out the Find & Replace dialog.  (I do not pin the dialog at this point.) Right-click on title bar.  Either clear the "Dockable" selection or click the "Float" selection.  Dialog pops out & floats. Click on the "Find & Replace" dialog (anywhere).  Dialog clears and Slick hangs.

I've only been able to reproduce this with all buffers closed, but it's reliable in that I can reproduce it every time.

Jim,

When I do the same thing you describe mine always dies too. Apparently I have a debug version of the code so it dies differently, but it dies.

Tim,

Gotcha.  I can get the same thing with RegEx evaluator window.  I dock it on the right as well.  I do not get that behavior with Open, Defs, Class, or any other dialog I have docked on the left side.  I just added an FTP dialog and tried to get it to crash, but no success.

Mine crashes when I try to float any dialog, no matter where it's docked. I haven't tried every one, but Search, Regexe Evaluator, Projects, Defs, Class, Symbols, Open, Search Results, Preview, References, Build, Message List and Output all do it. Plus, I have buffers open.

I missed the auto-hide case. Fixed in the next build. Thanks!
