Product suggestion: disable auto-complete
« on: March 21, 2007, 11:01:45 pm »
The auto-complete "feature" in slickedit is enough to make me go to something like vim, or pointed sticks and wet slabs of clay.  I spend more time and keystrokes getting "out" of the auto-completroid than I do actually typing.  This feature is frustrating beyond the words of mortal man.

That said, there are time when I'm editing a Javascript file where it's actually useful.  Sometimes incorrect, but sometimes it works.

It's too bad there isn't an easy way to turn it off and on dynamically.  As it is, I have to permanently disable it with extreme prejudice - an action I suggest for whoever came up with it.

Life can be so easy - well, not THAT hard ;)
Proposal:
Increase the autocomplete timeout to a laaaarger value to avoid that it kicks in too often for you.
If you need it's power 'on demand' you should add a keybinding to the 'autocomplete' command to invoke it explicitely.
It's not too bad to choose a key combination you can use quick'n easy (sth. like CTRL-ENTER)...

Good luck,
