No, No, Stop PLEASE
« on: March 21, 2007, 08:31:20 pm »
Suppose one has a project with tens of thousands of files, and one starts a find operation on the project files then realises one has used the wrong search term... how does one stop the find operation?

Do you 'Find and Replace' in background mode ? That the way to go !
Works seamless in bg and is stoppable.
Re-invoke the dialog if you close it when launching a find -> the find button got a stop button :)
So don't check 'Foreground search'.

Ah-ha! My hero++ :)

I didn't have it in any particular mode, which turned out to be the background mode. What was happening was that when I re-popup the find dialog it comes up with the local buffer screen, not the find in files screen, so there's no stop button visible. Switching to the correct screen shows the stop button, which does the business.

Even better: There is a 'stop-search' command.
Just ESCape to cmdline and do 'stop-search' (or add a key binding to it)

That's a possibility. Not sure it's 'even better', though  ;)
