Installed in root vs. Program Files, 20.0.2, Win7 64-bit
« on: July 13, 2016, 02:51:09 PM »
I noticed that SE is installed at "C:\SlickEdit Pro 20.0.2" on my laptop.

It is installed at "C:\Program Files\SlickEdit Pro 20.0.2" on my desktop.

I am pretty sure that my previous installations on the laptop were NOT in the root. I am fairly confident that I would have noticed that, just as did this case.

It is OK that it is in the root but I am curious as to why. I never select paths other than the defaults for any applications I install. I just don't want issues from untested cases; I don't have the time or patience. OK... OK... I might have the time.  :)

So, did I inadvertently select an alternate path?
Or, is there something in the installation wizard that made that decision?

The default is to install under Program Files, as per standards.

You either accidentally changed the path, or you modified ProgramFilesDir in your registry on your laptop at some point.

I uninstalled SE 2015 and just installed SE 2016 se_21000012_win64.msi. The path was definitely set to Program Files but it installed in the root.

I uninstalled SE 2016 se_21000012_win64, the root directory was deleted by the uninstaller. Then I re-uninstalled SE 2016 se_21000012_win64.msi and it went to the root again. Not a single SE folder was created under Program Files.

See attached screen shot of the installer path setting and options.
