*really* wide columns in "FindSymbol" tool
« on: August 10, 2016, 06:49:59 PM »
Sometimes when I open FindSymbols (docked to the bottom of Slickedit main window), the columns are *really* wide.

I've got 3 monitors side-by-side.
On a hunch, I unmaximized Slick, then made it wide enough to fill all 3 monitors across.
Now, FindSymbol fits without a horizontal scrollbar.

Somehow, FindSymbol is spreading out its columns to fit the entire width of all 3 monitors, instead of just fitting in the monitor it is on, or even better, in the space allotted for it in the Slick window.

Now, when I shrink slick back down to a reasonable width (to fit a single monitor), the first 3 columns shrink - but the "Line" column remains very wide. So the symbol, file, path are all mostly obscured to leave an obscene amount of space for the line numbers.

I'm having trouble reproducing this.  Do you think you could post some snapshots?

Find Symbols does try to scale the columns as it is resized, and with enough recalculations, it can get out of proportion due to rounding errors, but I'm not convinced that is what is happening to you.

Do you have the Search Options expanded or collapsed?  Is Find Symbol laying itself out with the Look in: to the left or below the list of symbols in your layout?

SearchOptions is expanded.
LookIn is on the right.

Make FindSymbols be docked on the bottom.
Select a different tab so FindSymbols is not showing.
Exit Slick
Start Slick
Select FindSYmbols tab to bring it to front.
Now the column widths are wrong.

If I restart slick with FindSymbols showing, it doesn't happen.

I will put together a hot fix for this after the release.
