DZilla: File List
« on: September 01, 2016, 07:38:37 pm »
What is the format of the "File list file".

The help on this is of little help.
An example in the help would be great.

All I get is

---------------------------
SlickEdit Pro
---------------------------
'C:\temp\FileList1.txt' is not a valid list file
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

In the MFDiffOutput there is a "Save..." button.
Can this save a filelist in the format that DZ requires for input?
Seems like that would make sense :-)

The answer: https://community.slickedit.com/index.php/topic,10233.msg43199.html#msg43199

The file list needs to be relative to the specified paths.  So you need to specify something like:

vsdiff -filelist list.txt c:\p\ e:\a\b\c\

and list.txt needs to be a list of files that are relative to both those directories.
Looks like the last time I used this was 2 years ago :-)

I'm just glad somebody is using it ;).  Sorry I didn't see your post before you had to go digging through old posts for it.

It actually is in the help for vsdiff (if you run vsdiff --help it pops up a message box) and the online help for DIFFzilla.

Sounds like a typical programmer ...
It is pretty spare.

How about the thrill of writing the documentation and getting it right the first time with no spelling or grammatical errors?

Um, what message box pop up?  It definitely is not launching online help.  (Ubuntu 14.04/x64/SE beta 5)

I only see terse usage dump, not online help (tried with both --help and -help):

Code: [Select]
$ vsdiff --help

vsdiff

Usage:
        To compare two files:
        vsdiff  [-r1][-r2] [-wc <wildcard>] [-x <wildcard>] <FileOrPath1> <FileOrPath2>
If files have the same name, only give path for File2
        ex:
                vsdiff <path1>/file1.c <path2>
         +t Recurse directories (default)
         -t Do not recurse directories
-r1 option will make file on left read only.
-r2 option will make file on right read only.
-wc <wildcard> for multi-file diff.  Multiple wildcards may be
specified after -wc, separated by spaces.  Multiple
instances of -wc may be used.
         -x  <exclude wildcard> for multi-file diff.  Multiple wildcards
may be specified after -x, separated by spaces.  Multiple
instances of -x may be used.
-filelist [listfile] listfile is a relative list of filenames to be
                diffed in the specified directories.
         -showdifferent Show different files
         -hidedifferent Hide different files
         -showmatching Show matching files
         -hidematching Hide matching files
-shownotinpath1 Show files missing from path 1
-hidenotinpath1 Hide files missing from path 1
-shownotinpath2 Show files missing from path 2
-hidenotinpath2 Hide files missing from path 2
-showviewed Show files already viewed in diff
-hideviewed Hide files already viewed in diff

        To launch DIFFzilla(R) dialog:

        vsdiff

A SlickEdit configuration path may be specified with a -sc option
        ex:
                vsdiff -sc <configpath> ...

Thats the "spare" part of it  :)

Oh ... On windows that help message is in a messagebox.
On linux it isn't?

Nope.  Dumps the usage straight to the console with no X related pop up window.
