Problem with search
« on: April 13, 2007, 07:52:09 pm »
Hello,

SlickEdit v 12.

I have a file extension mapped to .bas.  I am trying to search a set of files in the current dir: Match whole word, use regex, color: Not string, not comment.

The search results includes both comments and strings.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

Matthew

Is .bas itself still mapped to use the Visual Basic lexer? If the color coding from the lexer has been somehow messed up, you won't get color coding, and therefore the color searches won't work.

If you are using Regular Expressions, you should be careful using the "Match Whole Word" option. Instead, try to use the expression itself to set the boundaries of what matches and what doesn't. If you are writing expressions that will only contain word characters, then you're OK. But you'll get bad results if you're using expressions that surround or embed non-alphanum matche sequences.

In the "Colors" checkboxes, what do the boxes look like? string and comment should have no check or "full box" mark. All the others should be in the "full box" mark. (third checkbox state)
