Better ways to close files

Now that all my "windows" are in one giant toolbar tab, and because I'm lazy, my tab file is getting overloaded with open files.  This wasn't too much of a bother to me before but it makes navigating the tab interface unwieldy.

I think it'd be nice to have a feature to limit the number of open files and auto-close the least recently used file after the limit has been reached.
(EG, If I specify 100 files as the limit, after opening the 101st file, close the currently most unused file)

Which file tabs are you referring to?  The "new" ones?  Is closing a "buffer" the same as closing a tab?

Yeah you're right I had forgotten about that paradigm...
I'm really referring to the open buffers.  Although it might be problematic if you have split windows and the same file is shown over them (multiple tabs).  So you'd probably want to keep the last viewed time per buffer rather than tab. Then when you open up the nth buffer you'd close all the associated tabs.  The behavior here would be bad with a small n (like 5... 50?)... but I think setting it to something like 100 would help with "clutter".
For instance I currently have 227 buffers (not tabs) open in my project.  Sure I can close them manually or close them all and reopen the ones I need at the moment but that seems to be a lot of housekeeping I shouldn't have to do. (or more accurately... too lazy to do!)

Multiple rows in the file tabs toolbar.  I have 38 files open right now and a lot of them are hidden so I have to scroll to see them.  And it's very irritating when I have to close multiple files that are hidden since the file tabs scroll all the way to the right after every close and I have to scroll back to the left every time.

Move the "File Save", "File Close", & "Close Others" entries in the file tab context menu to the bottom (if file tabs are on the bottom). This is the most used part of that context menu in my case. Rarely am I changing tab sort order or split screen setting. I use get file name a little more frequently. But, it seems to me that the most obvious candidate for high-usage is the save & close. Currently, these entries are farthest away requiring more navigation.

If the file tabs are at the top, then the entries would in the context menu would be reversed to again move them closer to the initial mouse\cursor location.

I noticed that it depends on window layout. ie: pinned search results window or NOT at bottom.
