VS11 helpfile integration
« on: June 23, 2006, 09:30:09 AM »
I'm considering VS11 as a possible development tool for the company I work for. During a previous release (v10) evaluation, I had not found any option to use a third party chm helpfile although it was easy to include old winhelp (hlp) files. Could you please tell me if that is possible now with VS v11?

Thank you

We don't have anything out-of-the-box for integrating a CHM help collection. However, if you are on Windows, and if your help collection is able to be integrated into the MSDN help collections (either Visual Studio 2003 or 2005), you can configure F1 help to invoke the MSDN help viewer. This is available in version 11. (Go to Help | Configure F1 MSDN Help)

We already use VS as development tool. The possibility of using chm help files directly with VS would be a very useful function! Unfortunately we don't use Visual Studio 2003 or 2005.

Is it planed to integrated a direct support for 3rd party chm help files in VS in future releases?
