Directory bookmarks/favorites for the Open tool window
« on: July 22, 2013, 02:39:53 AM »
In the smart open tool window - I'd like a way to easily go to recently visited directories.

One way you could consider doing this - in the lower window you have the "Favorites" category.  You can make another category as "Recently visited directories" (or some better, shorter name).

Another option is: convert the edit box at the top of the open dialog to a drop down combo box.  This drop down combo box would list most recently entered values in that combo box - I often put directories in there so that could serve me well.  You could also learn each directory that is changed to by smart open and put it in the combo box.

Add options to File Open dialog:

Jump to directory of current buffer
Favorite Directories (MRU)
--- But make sure that individual entries can be deleted with delete key right there, not navigating through the options menu)

See Boxer text editor for reference.

Directory bookmarks for the "Open" tool window.

I am typically working in several different directories and switching back and forth among them.  The set of directories that I happen to be working with keeps changing, so I don't want to set them up as Favorites.  Since the directories are spread out in different places, it is kind of a pain to have to click around through the tree to get back to the directory you want.

Perhaps there could be some little buttons at the bottom of the "Open" tool window like: "Set 1", "Go to 1", "Set 2", "Go to 2", ...

The "Set" buttons could set the corresponding bookmark at the current directory.  The "Go to" buttons would switch to a previously bookmarked directory.

Or if there were no buttons, then maybe some commands that you could bind to keys with the same functionality.

Easy selection of recently used folders would be a really useful feature! But I would prefer a simple automatically generated drop-down list (5-10 entries, number configurable) placed at the top of the folder display of the Open tool, and somewhere equivalent in the standard file open dialog).

Probably SE tracks this information somewhere right now.
