Sorry for the inconvenience StephenW!

It looks like the solution for this is to load the latest hot fix on SlickEdit 2015 (v20.0.3), *before* starting SlickEdit v21 to migrate the configuration.

Hopefully you still have SlickEdit v20.0.3, and can run it, so you can load:
https://www.slickedit.com/images/stories/support/hotfixes/20/hotfix_se2003_6_cumulative.zip

(Help > Product Updates > Load Hot Fix...)
After loading the above hot fix, exit SlickEdit 2015 and delete or rename your SlickEdit 2016 configuration directory:  /home/<user>/.slickedit/21.0.1

When you start SlickEdit 2016, it should properly re-migrate your configuration and create a /home/<user>/.slickedit/21.0.1 with your configuration properly setup.

Please let us know if you need SlickEdit 2015, so that you can update your older configuration, and if you need a 32-bit or 64-bit installer.

Unfortunately, I do not have v20.0.3 installed any more.  But that could have been what was originally installed under the trial license.  So I thought I would try just renaming all the Slickedit directories and doing a full re-install of v21.0.1.  But a completely clean install did not fix the problem.  As I no longer have the v20.0.3 config either, getting a copy of that to reinstall would not help.
