Edit -> Other -> Tabs To Spaces
« on: July 19, 2017, 12:49:50 am »
This doesn't work for long lines ... seems to fail after around 300 columns.

Well it doesn't give an error, it just leaves tabs past that number of columns unconverted.

Seems like it ought either convert them (please!), or at least give an error/warning.

The default limit for tab expansion is around 256 columns. No tabs are expanded to spaces after that. It's an important performance optimization.

This option can't be set from the GUI. The easiest way to set it is to edit your "user.cfg.xml" file and add this:

      <max_tab_expansion_col v="1000"/>

The above line must go inside the following profile:

    <misc.options n="misc.options" version="1">

You can make the value larger. It won't work for lines longer than the force wrap line length (~4000).

When you save user.cfg.xml, you will be prompted whether to apply the options, select Yes.

Exit and restart SlickEdit.
