proxy settings with username/password and https_proxy variables?
« on: September 20, 2017, 06:06:35 pm »
In Linux one standard way to set the proxy information is with the http_proxy and https_proxy environment variables, such as wget uses and many other Linux programs:

https://www.gnu.org/software/wget/manual/html_node/Proxies.html

It seems that SE does not look at http_proxy or https_proxy? When I load some xml files it has a URL for the schema and SE can't find it due to proxy not configured.

When I try to configure the proxy in Tools->Options, I can only provide an address and a port, but not a username and password. Usually I specify into one of my http_proxy environment variables:

export http_proxy=username:password@proxy.com:8000

So I tried putting "username:password@proxy.com" into the HTTP "proxy address to use" but I still couldn't reach an outside website.

So perhaps in tools->options support this, and/or have SE support using http_proxy/https_proxy/no_proxy env vars that I have set and work with many Linux applications.
