No Line Numbers
« on: March 02, 2018, 04:45:51 PM »
I no longer see line numbers on text files.
They used to appear when I opened the file but I must now manually turn them on each time a file is opened.
I've attached screenshots showing the document type, the plain text view options, and the all languages view options. As you can see, the file is treated as plain text and both sets of options select Line Numbers to be viewed.
>>>I am using SlickEdit Pro 2017 v22.0.0.9 64-bit
Is there another option somewhere that I need to change?

Note that this was working until about three days ago and I've not updated SlickEdit.

Thank you,
Dave

I wrote this recently.  Backup your configuration folder before you delete the state files - just in case you don't like the result.

There's a possibility that deleting all of the state files (vslick.sta and any hotfix state files) in your configuration folder (with slick closed) will fix the problem  - or maybe start a brand new configuration folder and import your settings.  Quite often an obscure problem can be fixed just by deleting the state file.  There's lots of "pcode" and data in the state file.

Thank you for this response. I'll need to try this when the workload lightens up and I can do so. I'll update this when I try your suggestion.

I moved the vslick.sta out of the configuration folder and now, when I try to start SlickEdit, I get a message that says "vslick.sta not found".

What do I do?

Make sure you still have a vslick.sta in your SlickEdit installation folder. If you don't, you'll need to reinstall SlickEdit.

Thanks, I checked and I do have one in the SlickEdit Pro 22.0.0 folder.
That doesn't seem to matter when I remove the one from the configuration folder.

I vaguely remember there being an issue (bug) with removing the state file if you installed a hot fix. Can't remember when this was fixed. Do you have any other .sta files in your local config folder? If so, you'll have to remove those too. That means you'll have to reinstall the last hot fix you installed. If you update to the latest SlickEdit, you won't have this problem.

I updated to 22.0.2.1 and was able to move the vslick.sta file out and restart SlickEdit. I now see the line numbers on my log files again.

Thanks for all the help!

Hey, I'm still seeing this issue but only with very large (>1GB) files.

I think that’s a performance option. Check under large file editing options.
