How do I compare 2 open files?
« on: April 04, 2018, 03:13:54 PM »
I have a project open and some files from that project open. I also have 2 files that are not part of the project open. How do I compare these using SE's file compare tool?

I looked in help and didn't find anything about invoking the compare from 2 open files. There is some command line stuff but I am not well versed in the SE command line.

I usually use Beyond Compare but thought I would give the SE compare tool a try. For BC, I go the directory, select the 2 files, right-click, Compare. Or, select file open for each pane inside BC.

I'm sure it's super simple but I am just missing it.

Do Tools->File Difference

There is also a handy macro to compare the last 2 opened files:

If you do it from the dialog, Alt+N will insert the current filename.  Also, the "..." button will list open files.
