Remove grayed out

So I've been ignoring this issue for a while, but now it's frustrating.  Basically, I the remove option is grayed out in the project pane whenever I right click on a file.

I'm in directory view, but I switched to the custom view and it was grayed out there too.  So, I can remove files through project properties, but there are over 200 files in this project... It takes a while to find them in that list.

Besides the remove option, I think SE should support basic file operations like rename and delete no matter which view you're in.  It's frustrating to have to edit the project file just to rename a file.

Any ideas why the remove option is grayed out?
