What happened to tabbed window w multiple files?
« on: April 23, 2018, 09:03:40 PM »
I am a long time user of SlickEdit and have just updated to the latest version (64 bit 22.0.2.1, Windows 7 Pro).  I don't know what I did but the main window now shows only one file with no tabs along the top to display other files in my project.

What am I doing wrong?

In Tools>Editing>Editor Windows, is Files per window set to "One file per window" or "Multiple files share window"?

I changed to  "Multiple files share window" but does not solve the problem. (Actually was Tools>Options>Editing>Editor Windows)

Maybe try the zoom-window command  - Ctrl-Shift-Z in CUA bindings.

I suspect (but I don't know for sure) that you want One file Per Window and what Graeme said (zoom-window).

Oh yeah. If you accidentally double-click in the file's tab, it automatically zooms it and the other tabs disappear. I get caught by this behavior quite often.

I appear to have solved this, but it is certainly not intuitive.  I selected "One File per Window" and then clicked (from the main menu) on Window/Zoom Toggle.

My thanks to everyone who responded.

I think the zoom toggle is all you really needed.

Most people want one file per window - this is how most Windows apps behave.  Having a window share multiple files has power, but it's sort of an old school way to do things.  For example, those of us who used text mode SlickEdit 24 or 25 years ago, some of us refuse to give in ;)

zoom-toggle can be really useful when you're looking at a file in a smaller window, and you want to take up the whole editor with it so you can see more.
