Error "Name not found" on startup.
« on: July 23, 2018, 09:01:45 pm »
Hello everyone,

My laptop froze while I was editing with SlickEdit; it required a hard reset.
Ever since, on start-up, SlickEdit gives a message box with only the text "Name not found" and an "OK" button (and a warning icon, and "SlickEdit Pro" in the caption). It also does this when no project is open (so SlickEdit starts empty).

After I click "OK", SlickEdit operates normally.

I have probably corrupted a configuration file. Does anyone have a suggestion to correct this? Is there a backup of the configuration?

Thanks in advance for any help.

What version of slickedit and what O.S.?

If you have an autosave folder, make a copy of it first.
Then make a copy/ backup of your entire configuration folder (with slick closed), then delete the file vslick.sta (or vslick.stu) and start slick.
Also try running vslick.exe +new -sc c:\some-empty-folder

It's SlickEdit version 22.0.2.1 64-bit on Windows 10, but the problem is solved.

I went through the files in the configuration folder, looking for ones that appear corrupted. I found "personal.sca" that only had zeros. Since I have SlickEdit on Linux too, I could easily verify that this was supposed to be an XML file. I copied that one to the Windows machine and that solved the problem.

Thank you for your help.

An automatic backup of the configuration folder could be useful.  I think I'll put that in as a feature request.
