Slickedit 12.0.1 unusable -
« on: June 01, 2007, 02:21:27 AM »
I've just installed 12.0.1 and it's been a disaster. I can't set toolbars without getting the following errors. I don't know
if this is relevent, but I have a 24" monitor.

You are getting the stack because the toolbar model has an invalid entry. Why does it have an invalid entry? I do not know. When this happens, most of the time anyway, it is caused by something that happened 5 minutes/1 hour/3 days ago, and is very difficult to track down without a reproducable set of steps.

Reset your toolbars from the SlickEdit command line:

tbResetAll

If you have a set of steps that reproduces the issue, then please let support@slickedit.com know. And, of course, if the above does not solve your problem, then let us know that too.

Actually it's not all sorted. When I restart Slick I get the same problem. I'm having to tbResetAll every time I start Slickedit.

I'm getting lots of stack windows... Is there a log or something which contains all the stacks?

Each stack is overwritten by the next. We need to see the first stack. Take a screen shot if that is the only way.

Something (tool window arrangement, ???) has corrupted the docking model. Can you screen shot your entire editor so I can see the layout of tool windows that is being restored? This would be after you have them arranged the way you want them and before you exit SlickEdit. I would also like a copy of your vrestore.slk file in your config directory after you exit SlickEdit, but before you re-open and get the Slick-C stack. Send both of these items to support@slickedit.com.

In the meantime, after you have saved off screen shots and vrestore.slk, try exiting SlickEdit, deleting vrestore.slk, restarting SlickEdit. Does the problem recur?

Screenshoots and vrestore.slk sent to your support...

Deleting vrestore.slick has solved my problem. As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, I have a 24" monitor,
which gives me a lot of real estate to play with. I like to spread the toolbars around so I don't have to tab. That
may be a red herring, but who knows.

Thanks

I don't have a 24" monitor handy to test on (sniff). My boss makes me work with a 4x4 array of 12" monochrome CRTs (the orange kind, you remember). He's a cruel, cruel man.  ;)

I will have a look at your files.

Thanks.

Errr, was I boasting ;)? Well, size does count (when coding in an IDE).

Anyway, you don't know how lucky you are! I come from a mainframe background and just about remember screw in disks the size of
an average washing machine. Some of my workchums are real old timers and remember the days of paper tape, punch cards
and teletypes. Maybe your boss in more generous than you think ;D.

Thank you so much for this post.  I have used SlickEdit for years and love it.  Ver 11 running on my Win 7 machine at home (I use ver 16 at work) suddenly "decided" to undock some of my tool windows and would not let me redock them.  tbResetAll fixed it.  Very bizzarre!
