SlickEdit 2018 v23 Beta 4: Can't find new references
« on: September 27, 2018, 02:59:11 pm »
I'm using Windows 7.
I've noticed with Beta 4 (first beta I've tried) that when I add a new C symbol (e.g. struct member), if I do Ctrl-/ to search for references, it will tell me that none were found and ask if I want to pop from the stack. I retagged the project (only modified files) and it's still doing it.

Sometimes it works without manually tagging, but after a long time (tagging?). I went back to the 22.02 version and it found all references immediately.

Then I went back to beta 4 and it still couldn't find them.

I'm attaching a screenshot of my references tab. I have the tagfiles folder available if needed.

Guess I'll have to submit a ticket.

Changing to Beta 5 since it happens there too. There are MANY C symbols that can't be found. It seems like the only thing it can find is functions. This is happening with push-ref, but not push-tag.

I tried a random >80,000 file test case. All files were on a local SSD. Took it about ~10 seconds to grind through but found all the references.

Are you relying on preprocessing? The "Dynamically expand local #defines" setting between 21 and 22 does not have the same default setting (Tools>Options>Languages>Application Languages>C/C++>C/C++ Parsing Options>Dynamically expand local #defines).

There will be a fix for the "No more references, pop from stack?" bug in the next beta drop (beta 6).

Please verify that you do not have filters active in the References tool window.  Right click in the tree control and select "Quick Filters > Show all tags".  This could be the reason that references appear to be missed.

Clark, I do not have that option set.
Dennis, good call. I had Function only on, which explains what I was seeing (red-faced).
I must have accidentally set it on the References tab instead of the Defs tag.
