Hi Dennis,

Tried reinstalling - no joy. We also tried copying the slickedit app over to the c:\temp\slickedit and ran it from there. Same thing.

AppLocker was mentioned recently and I've asked about it. I'm told it's not used. We do have something called Avecto Defendpoint, but it is disabled.

Since things work correctly when you run as administrator, your installation is good, there is just something overly restrictive about the group policy settings on your machine.  I am still trying to reproduce the same problem on my Windows 10 virtual machine (so far without any luck).

Maybe a tool like Russinovich's Process Monitor (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/procmon) might help narrow down which resource is inaccessible?

Thought I'd update all that have kindly given ideas on this one. We found it... finally!

Turns out to be Symantec DLP (Data Loss Protection). We're not sure exactly what it is doing yet (under investigation), but it is the cause. So, if anyone else has  issues where slickedit just doesn't seem to be running properly, think about this one! This was painful!
