core dump 24.0.0.8 on Oct 11 when saving a file
« on: October 11, 2019, 06:32:32 pm »
Got my 3rd core dump today Oct 11. Any progress on the other 2 core dumps? Were they the same issue?

I was saving a file when it happened this time.

Look for "core-191011.txt" on support, it has a link to download the tarball.

Haven't gotten a lot out of the core dumps.  The stack frames seem hosed.   It's weird this is just turning up now, I didn't think there were any changes towards the end of the beta that I'd suspect of being an issue.

If you've still got a local copy of the core dump on your system, if you bring it up with "gdb /your/SE/install/path/vs_exe core.vs_exe", and run "bt", what do you get?  (not a big deal if it's already deleted, I'm downloading the core now).

Stack trace from gdb attached. Are you sure you are using the Linux x64 executable for 24.0.0.8 when you run gdb?

I will also attach stack traces to the other 2 core dumps

Yeah, I just double checked again.   I pulled it on a CentOS system, but not 7.2.1511.   I'd hoped that would cut down on  noise about the shared library mismatches, without having to pull the libraries for that version, but apparently I made a mistake somewhere.  Thanks for the stacks.

Clark has a bare bones virtual machine from me with 7.2.1511, perhaps try it there?

Checked with him, he got rid of it a couple of days ago in the process of switching his main development machine from Windows to Linux.

I did find a vanilla image for 7.2.1511 which I've gone ahead and started downloading, so I'll have it if I need it.

I'm still looking into this.  If you happen to get another core in the meantime:

   1) you don't need to do the backtrace anymore.  I can read the stacks just fine when I don't have incorrect paths in my gdb debugging setup.   :-[

   2) Check the logs with journalctl -xe, and see if there are any suspicious messages related to vs_exe before the core dump message.  Probably a long shot, but I wanted to cover that base just in case.

Sorry for the delay.  Usually, even if the coredump doesn't show me exactly what happened, it lets me narrow things down into a range I can probe for problems with valgrind or other tools.  But there are some things I'm still figuring out with these dumps, so the search area is still a little large.
