autocomplete lookup lag
« on: December 06, 2019, 08:16:28 am »
hi
very annoying problem in slickedit is autocomplete lookup lag. when i starting to type some code and slickedit decides to show autocomplete window - interface freezes for a 3-4 seconds which is very bad - i can't do anything and need to wait - even if autocomplete is not needed this time. it's good idea to make autocomplete code work in background thread.

What version of slickedit?
What operating system?
Are you running in a VM?
How long have you been using slickedit for and how long have you had this problem?
Is you project tag file on a remote drive?

In tools -> options -> editing -> context tagging  -check your settings under "auto complete tuning" - expecially "timeout after ms when automatic".
You can turn off automatic completion suggestions and use it on demand    - under language -> auto completion.

Latest trial slickedit 24, mac os, not a VM. Just tried to use it with my existing project (from other IDE).
All files on local drive.

If i'll enable timeout for auto completion - auto completion simply will not work for me ?

If you use autocomplete on demand does it work?  I don't know what the default keybinding for this is on mac os.  Type "where-is autocomplete" on the slick command line to see what the keybinding is.

How large is your project - how many files, what type of project - C++ ?
Has a tag file been built for your project - in the tools menu, select "tag files" and check the workspace tag file has all of you project files in it.

If you're using the trial edition, I think SlickEdit Support will give you free help for stuff like this.

Project is C++. I didn't tried autocomplete on demand. Project is near 2mb of c++ code. Tag file built without problems.
Is slickedit capable of doing autocomplete popup menu construction in background thread ?
