Tool windows disappear when main window loses focus
« on: June 06, 2020, 02:17:32 AM »
I've been using v23 for over a year now, but suddenly it's developed an annoying new habit.  Whenever the main editor window loses focus, all of my tool windows disappears.  They reappear when the editor window regains focus.  How do I fix this?

I'm running Kubuntu Linux 20.04.

in options appearance -> tool window options,  untick "hide when application is inactive".

That option is already unticked.

Another weird problem is that sometimes I cannot move the tool windows.  I have to restart Slickedit to fix that.

KDE seems to have an option to "Hide utility windows for inactive applications".

It's at the bottom of the page:

THANK YOU!  That bugged me for so long!

For others, in Kubuntu 20.04 (probably similar for other distros), you:
- Go to menu Settings-->System Settings
- Under Workspace, select Window Management
- In the second list that appear, you select Window Behavior (it's the first item, should be selected by default)
- In the dialog form, click the Advanced tab
- It's there, the last checkbox, "Hide utility windows for inactive applications".  Just de-select that.

It's crucial for me when debugging, as I have my watch window detached, on the right monitor, and I need to go to other applications while still displaying the values.

Regards,
Eric H.

I'm still having the problem that I'm unable to move or resize the tool windows after some time.  I can resolve this by closing the window and reopening it, but that means that my search and build results are lost.

Don't know if this will work but try the save-named-layout and load-named-layout commands.  For me, the search results and build window content is retained.  You will be prompted for the name of a tool-window layout to save / restore to  - pick any name you like.  You can have multiple layouts.
