i've attached a text file that renders correctly in Notepad++ but is not in SlickEdit. screenshots:
Notepad++
SlickEdit
why is this the case and is it something that a user can sort out by themselves or is it something that needs to be added by the developers ?

It looks like if you go to Document>Tabs and type in "1 5" (don't actually quote it), that should fix it up.
The default for tab setting for Plain Text is +8.

nice! Thank you it displays correctly now and it seems hs2 was onto something Thanks to them as well.
is there any way to ensure that "1 5" is the default for Plain Text so that when such files are encountered they'll render correctly ?

There are extension/language specific configurations like ident with TABs or SPACEes, their spacing and many more. This is used as default for the associated type of files, which in turn can be overridden by the current
Document
settings.

oops, thank you for pointing me in the right direction. setting the Tabs as "1 5" in the Formatting menu of the Plain Text options did the trick.
Thank you for your assistance on this one.
