Problem with SE Terminal
« on: September 29, 2021, 12:42:37 am »
1 - The terminal provided by SE does not function like a real terminal.
In a real terminal if you attempt to type in anything that is visible on the screen, it takes you to the bottom where the prompt is and the typing appears there.

In SE  It just lets you type anywhere, but you're not really at a prompt. first of all it lets you position the cursor anywhere on the screen and anything that is typed appears at the cursor, including newlines but this is useless because you are not at a real prompt.

2 - If you up-arrow (to scroll back through the history, a real terminal first jumps to the bottom, where the live prompt is and whatever you type appears there. The SE terminal does not behave in this way. (see #1)

SlickEdit's Terminal does not support all the features of various terminals (I use the zsh with the fancy extensions which are great). There isn't a way to run these actual shells and get all their features in SlickEdit. Every feature must be manually implemented. Also, not all real terminal "features" make sense. Some are more like limitations like the read-only nature of a terminal session.

Sounds like you want more of a read-only terminal instead of text that is editable.

I should mention that Undo usually works in SlickEdit's terminal. That should fix any accidental typing.
