Auto reload after editing in Diffzilla
« on: October 27, 2021, 03:24:52 pm »
I used the compare line ranges feature to compare two sections of the same file and copy some changes from one section to the other.  This file was also open in a editor buffer.  I then closed the diff and chose to save the results.  When I went back to look at the results in the buffer no changes were there.  So, I just did the changes by hand.  Then when I tried to save the modified buffer, it asked me if I wanted to overwrite the "newer" file on disk.  So, apparently the diff edits did get saved but Auto reload didn't detect it.

I have the Auto reload options that I think might be relevant set as follows:
Auto reload: ON
Suppress prompt unless modified: ON
Compare file contents before auto reload: OFF
Reload on switch buffer: ON
Auto reload current file only: OFF
Auto reload all files if current file changed: OFF

This is SlickEdit Pro 2021 (v26.0.0.6 64-bit Qt5) on Windows 10.

Let me know if you need any more information.

I'm glad you were able to reproduce this.

I don't use Diffzilla very often but it does have a couple of "killer features" that Beyond Compare (my favorite diff utility) doesn't have.  These are the ability to compare by symbol (e.g., functions) and by line ranges.  I often use Beyond Compare's clipboard compare feature as an easier to use analog to SE's line range compare but it doesn't have any link to the original files so, obviously, you can't edit and save changes when using that feature.

I hope that, now that this is reproduced, it won't be difficult to fix.
