Does background tagging lock files on Windows?
« on: November 16, 2021, 05:24:57 pm »
I've been getting git errors while merging changes from master lately.  Example:

Code: [Select]
error: unable to unlink old 'tests/qa/cpap/api_tests/genesis_api/k8s/test_k8s_localdisks.py': Permission denied

This is happening on random files I have nothing to do with. I don't edit them. They just happen to be in the same repo I'm developing in.  I can't cleanup until I exit SlickEdit. Then it goes away.

I don't think this is being caused by background tagging.

How large is this particular file?

It's not just one file. That was the last one it happened on.  In that case,...
Code: [Select]
$ dir /sandbox/integration-testing/tests/qa/cpap/api_tests/genesis_api/k8s/test_k8s_localdisks.py
-rw-r--r-- 1 pbrightl pbrightl 6840 Nov 16 16:33 /sandbox/integration-testing/tests/qa/cpap/api_tests/genesis_api/k8s/test_k8s_localdisks.py
Hmm... OK, I think I've added something that may be interfering here.  You may recall I do a lot of bash coding targeted at Ubuntu.  So I configured my Build window to run Windows WSL Ubuntu.  Hmm....
But this is a recent phenomena -- I've been running that for a while.  I'll say, I haven't been actively doing things in the build window very much.

Another note on build window -- it's just blank if I don't run something there.  If I hit alt-x to exit, my ssh-agent stuff (happens on login) shows up next to 4 exits and a warning something is still running..  So, maybe some of my customization at play?  Not sure how.

Sounds like slickedit is struggling to gracefully exit what is running in the build window.

Next time something is locked, make sure you terminate everything running in the build window

Is it always python files?
And do you do any Python debugging from Slick?

I've found that sometimes Slickedit doesn't shutdown the python process after debugging.
Occasionally when exiting, Slick will complain about the a process in the build window --- which turns out to be python.

if so, maybe that python instance is using the file?
