V27 linux version crashed
« on: October 24, 2022, 02:55:08 am »
Hi,
Encountered several crashes while using the v27.0.0.6 linux version.
core dump were not enabled.  but got some simple kernel messages.
Code: [Select]
[426713.718589] vs_exe[317216]: segfault at 100000011 ip 00007f97d228358d sp 00007ffe1588c190 error 4 in libQtGui.so.4[7f97d1cc7000+6ce000]
[836942.875206] vs_exe[422118]: segfault at 7f2500000035 ip 00007f368db23343 sp 00007ffe7931eb30 error 4 in libQtGui.so.4[7f368d569000+6ce000]

No exact reproduciable steps now. It seemed to happen while loading/tagging some large project, such as linux kernel source codes.

product info is as following,

If this continues to happen frequently on your machine, please download and try the Linux 64-bit Qt5 version to see if that helps.

If you can turn on core dumps, and collect the dump, we can take a look at that.

We'll send a PM with instructions on how/where to upload the dump.

I am also seeing crashing every time I invoke vs.exe (linux 64bit 27.0.0.5). It happens about 2 seconds after invoking, while tagging the workspace. Don't even have time to get to the option to turn off tagging.

What kind of project/workspace is it?  Can you tell what kind of files it is tagging?

Sometimes a crash can be the byproduct of a corrupted tag file.  Try deleting your workspace tag file before launching SlickEdit.

The instructions posted in the FAQ will help you gather a core dump.  https://community.slickedit.com/index.php/topic,19074.0.html

The crash occurs when I change a filesystem link that is pointing to several source directories (e.g. a new version of library source code).  VS doesn't seem to be able to handle the fact that the project files have changed.  I can work around by deleting the project file, removing the project reference from the vpw file, removing the vpwhistu file (out of superstition). Then, VS will invoke OK and I can re-create the project and load the files back into it.  The language I'm using is SystemVerilog.

Is it possible for you to tar up your project (symlinks and all) and send it into SlickEdit support with some step-by-step instructions on how to reproduce the problem?  Also, again, would be useful to have a core file so we could diagnose where the crash is happening.

Unfortunately, I can't do that. I work for a certain consumer electronics company that is notorious for its secrecy.

Can you sketch out how the symbolic link plays in to where you source is vs. where your workspace is located.

Does changing the symbolic link basically pull the workspace directory out from under SlickEdit?  There are tag files that might be open for writing or open as shared memory.  Because SlickEdit on Linux does not do file locking by default, I can see how that could potentially be a problem.
