Find Symbol window
« on: December 19, 2022, 07:21:20 PM »
27.0.1.0

I see that the Find Symbol window requires the following sequence:
1. open the Find Symbol window,
2. type in the symbol to Search For,
3a. click on the occurrence I want,
3b. click on the Goto Definition button (at bottom right)
3c. close the Find Symbol window.

In previous SE versions, at step 3a you could double click on the occurrence, and you would be taken there and the Find Symbol would close automatically (i.e. you did not need to do steps 3b and 3c). I find that this does not work any more, making it very cumbersome.

Is there an option/setting that I missed.

Thanks.

FWIW, after step (2), you could just cursor down to the symbol you want in the list, then hit Enter.  There does appear to be an issue with this, sometimes you have to hit Enter twice.  I'll add a fix for that to the next cumulative hot fix for 27.0.1.

I can not seem to reproduce a problem with double-click though.

Dennis, so double click works for you...?

Is there an option setting that I need to change...?

It does.  I only tested on macOS, but this should not be a platform-specific issue.  Nevertheless, what platform are you seeing this issue on?

The only setting that could be involved is whether you have the Find Symbol tool window configured to dismiss on Escape.  Tools > Appearance > Tool Windows > Find Symbol > (x) Esc dismisses floating window

In post #1 above, I should have clarified that that double clicking on the symbol does not take me to its definition/declaration (so I have to click the Goto Definition button at bottom right of Find Symbol window).

Same is happening in hotfix 2.

Double clicking on the symbol in the Find Symbol window results does not work anymore.

More info:

This happens when using a touch pad (i.e. on a laptop).

I plugged in a mouse and when using the mouse this does not happen.

Let me know if the fix Clark gave you for clicking on a text selection also fixes this issue.

Dennis,

Clark's fix does not appear to fix this.

In my previous messages here, where I said "click"/"clicking", I actually meant "tap"/"tapping".

Double tapping still exhibits the issue.

I found I have to click down on the touchpad (i.e. the touchpad is also a button) twice (i.e. the double click) and the proper behaviour occurs (goto symbol definition, close Find Symbol window).

I couldn't reproduce your double click problem with soft taps on my touch pad. I suggest you slow down your double-click speed. Attached is a picture of the "Additional mouse options" in Windows.

Hi Clark,

I find that if I physically slow down my double taps, then it behaves correctly.
