If you go to Tools>Options, and expand "File Options", what is "Backup" set to?

One way this can happen is if the buffer is changed from readonly to read/write by clicking on the indicator near the bottom right of the editor.  This would leave the file read only, but allow SlickEdit to attempt to write the file.  And this may give an erroneous error message.  Is there any chance this is what is going on?

Dan

Not as far as I know.

That being said, I deleted all traces of the member that was being edited when this was happening and the problem went away.

Also, I think that this was caused by something that my employer did to the pc, I will say no more about this.

Thanks for your help.

Can you retrieve that member through backup history?
