Can't change "Initialize search string" option
« on: September 12, 2023, 05:39:07 pm »
I went to Options -> Editing -> Search and wanted to change the Initialize Search String option.  It currently says "Word at cursor".  I seem to remember there being a dropdown that would let me modify that, but it's just a text field that I can't change.  Double click and right click on it do nothing.  If I select it, the line turns blue, and if I click away it's.. uh.. taupe?

It appears all of the text fields are uneditable.

What platform are you on?

++heroPoints for possibly being the first time the color "taupe" has been referenced on the SlickEdit the community.

I wonder if this is a multiple display issue. If you Drag SlickEdit on to one of your other displays, can you modify the "Initialize search string" field?

I tried moving the primary Slickedit window to my primary monitor, and when I click on Tools on the top toolbar, Tools highlights, but no menu shows up.  When I move the window back to another monitor and click on Tools, the menu shows up aligned to the top of the screen rather than under Tools. with a bunch of empty space at the bottom of the menu choices.  When I move the mouse left and right over the other toolbar selections like Macro and Document, the menus show up funny like that too, until I scroll over one I've already scrolled over, then it shows up fine, aligned under the toolbar selection and no blank space under the menu choices.

I'm trying to screenshot it but I can't when the tool menu is active.

I do have two windows open in Slickedit.

Definitely a multi monitor issue.

Try the Qt 5 installer

The v27.0.2 Qt5 linux installer is here:

Yes, switching to the v28.0.0 beta 2 Qt5 allows me to edit those fields.

So what does this mean long term?  Do I need to use a different version forever more?  Is Qt 5 going to be in the "main" releases?

Run the installer which works best for you. We didn't immediately switch to the Qt 5 installer because we couldn't get enough testing on it (although we wanted to). The Qt 4 version we know has been running fine on a ton of users computers. On Linux, it's not realistically possible for us to test every incarnation of Linux with all the different window managers. We've been building the Qt 5 installer for at least 3 years now. The Qt 5 version supports Fira Code fonts and the Qt 4 version does not. Other that, it's really about compatibility. You might have noticed an odd warning message when you type a character in the Qt 5 version. This will be fixed in beta 3.

Right now, the website just has the Qt 4 installer. We always have a URL for downloading the Qt 5 installer. Ask if you don't know what it is. We are expecting to make both installers available through the website in the near future.
