Customer portal change and existing licenses
« on: November 07, 2023, 07:36:37 PM »
After the pending customer portal changeover later this month, will "loyalty upgrades" still be available for existing licenses not under maintenance?  The recent email says "All serial number and customer purchase/registration information will be lost" - sounds kinda draconian.  Or is this only "lost" until the new website it up?

If your product is covered by Maintenance and Support, your upgrade to v28 is free. Download your v28 license file now by logging into your slickedit.com account at https://www.slickedit.com/myproducts. Go to your registered products page and click free upgrade. Continue through the 0.00 cart order and your product and license file will update in your web portal. You must download and save your v28 license file by November 25th. Otherwise, you will lose your free upgrade.

The web portal for managing license files will be permanently taken down. All serial number and customer purchase/registration information will be lost. Unfortunately, the system was built a very long time ago, is very complicated, and has been limping a long for years barely functioning on our end but to customers looking like it was working ok. It simple isn't possible to keep it going any more.

SlickEdit will be replacing the current website with a new website November 27th. There may be a short period where the new website and/or slickedit domain email is down. We will be working hard to make this period as short as possible. So far things are looking good but there are a lot of moving parts.

The new website won't manage license files for customers. SlickEdit stopped selling maintenance prior to releasing v28.

The new website will provide you access to download any SlickEdit Pro installer >=v11 (2006) and any SlickEdit Standard installer >=v19 (2014).

The new website will provide you access to hot fixes for SlickEdit >= v25 (2020)

We expect to be able to preserve this SlickEdit Community forum including user names and passwords.

What about products NOT under maintenance.  Currently I can log in and there is a "Upgrade" (not free) or "Loyalty Upgrade" (slight discount over new purchase) option for older versions.  Will those still be available after the change-over?  Will there be any upgrade path for these older, not under maintenance versions other than "buy a new version"?

@Clark

Can you please explain/clarify this statement?

Is maintenance going away?

Maintenance is going away for now. SlickEdit will go back to doing upgrades for simplicity.

So, instead of paying for maintenance each year and getting free upgrades, we will instead pay for the upgrades?

Sorry I am just checking on this. So, my maintenance was paid though 2026. Does that mean I lose it?

Keep your receipts. You can use your receipts to get free upgrades for 2024 and after.

As far as I can see, the reciept doesn't tell how long the maintanence contract was good for. I tried to keep it paid a few years in advance so I'd still have it if I ran into a period where I was having financial problems again. The last reciept I have was for 2022, but I am certain that 2023 was not the last year of maintanence. Unfortunatly, I didn't take a screenshot of the state of my account information before the website was changed.

Does the amount you paid in 2022 (or prior receipt) indicate that you paid for additional maintenance years?

If you you got two receipts for maintenance in the same maintenance year, that would work too.

Hello everybody,
I have 5 licenses 3 Linux and 2 windows, for a long time.
I expected this scrap move from slickedit. We was loyal to slickedit but slickedit.....
But...no problem they are out there many others alternatives.
The most valuable is "VIM". I regret that I sustained for many years this....
