Compiler on another system?
« on: September 26, 2007, 12:51:51 pm »
I'm trying to use SlickEdit for OpenVMS COBOL programming.

The problem is the compiler runs on the VMS system but SlickEdit is on my PC. Has anyone had experience with this?

You can try the FTP tool window (View>Toolbars>FTP) and create a connection profile for your OpenVMS host. Although we pick up the host system automatically, you might have to pick the "Host type" to be "VMS" (you'll know you have a problem when we cannot parse the directory listing and you get nonsense for the list view). You can open/edit/save using our integrated FTP.

As far as building goes, you'll probably have to build outside of SlickEdit because we will not be able to map paths for error messages back to your files opened via FTP.

Good luck.
