Dumb question: Hero Points

Being new to the whole community-forum thing, I've got a dumb question... what are "Hero Points" and how are they obtained?  I notice that a lot of the "Developers" that post here have hero points and that not many "community" members do... are hero points a way of getting a raise at the ol' SlickEdit offices ;-)
