Tilde key on ThinkPad
« on: August 18, 2006, 07:42:36 PM »
On my ThinkPad T23 the Tilde key does not work, while in all other applications, it works.

The system is Linux 2.6.14 with KDE 3.5 desktop. Changing the keyboard layout did not help.

Has anybody got an idea, how to get the Tilde key to work?

What output do you get when you run xev from the command line and press the tilde key?  Would you mind showing us the output?

I found the problem, or better, the solution to the problem. If the LANG variable is not set, you get this behaviour. As soon as as you set LANG to something (need not match the keyboard language), it works.

I remembered that OpenOffice once (or still?) showed the same behaviour. Probably has to do with some library used by both these products.

Probably something for the FAQ!
