Native Cocoa OSX version? Fix SE on X11 instead!
« on: March 10, 2008, 10:06:01 am »
hi
okay the title is maybe a little unfriendly - sorry for that.

But I wonder a bit of all the complaints about not having a native mac os x version. Why do you ask

"Native Cocoa OSX version?" http://community.slickedit.com/index.php?topic=132.0

the better question would be:

"what do we need on OSX?"

- snappy interface
- nice interface
- nice fonts
- non-broke drag and drop (yes my SE likes to crash)
- non-broke mouse

I know this is not too specific. But its hard to describe feelings and SE on Mac *feels* definitely not good.

IMHO the SE team should do a major rewrite of their X11 version. No native Mac version needed. Fix SE on X11 instead.

If you want to know of what I'm talking about have a look at WingIDE (Python Ide on X11):

http://www.wingware.com/images/screen4.jpg (Cocoa-style on a linux toolkit)

if you work with wingide you almost never feel the need for something more native. it gets the job done the right way.

just my 2c.

regards

Like you said, your comments are not specific.

Before I ask a lot of question, I want to ask a fairly specific question.

Does WingIDE display a different list of fonts? Or does a specific font look better in WingIDE? If different fonts are displayed, what are they?

Thanks
