fonts in X11 under OSX
« on: July 14, 2006, 02:57:24 am »

Does anyone know if you can get your nice TTF fonts in SlickEdit v11 running in X11 under OSX?  One of my big things before I moved from Gentoo Linux to Mac OSX was to get slickedit.  Well they finally came out with a "Mac" version but it requires X11 under OSX which I hate.

One of my biggest problems is the ugly fonts.  I tried using 'fondu' to extract my good fonts from the .dfont packages and into TTFs then tried adding those to my /etc/X11/fs/config catalog paths.  It doesn't seem to work.

So a guess on my part (and I hope I'm wrong), I think the fonts won't show up because they are running with xft which I saw v10 had support for but I think it is only for the Linux version and not the Mac one.

Hopefully one of you out there has gotten better fonts with VS for mac because programming in C++ without VS is like painting code in animal blood on a cave wall... Not fun...  To say I'm addicted to VS is an understatement and until they get a mac native version I'm miserable. :(

I apologize for the "me too" post....but me too !!

The font under X11 on OSX are horrible. After staring at them all day, I leave the office with a headache. I would love a way to improve/change them. Actually, what I'd really love is a Cocoa native GUI for Slickedit.

I've spent a lot of time trying to get some of the TT fonts I have on my mac to be recognized by SlickEdit, with some success.  Unfortunately, for me at least, since SlickEdit doesn't have an option to anti-alias fonts, the fonts I've chosen to use (like Monaco), look horrible.

So, SlickEdit people, any chance we might see support for anti-aliased fonts added?

Thank you for your interest in SlickEdit offering a native Mac version. We are excited to announce that native Mac support will be offered in 2012. View the announcement here:
