Mapping mouse events

I have Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 3000 and would like to  map the right side red button to "back" function (so that it works like when browsing with Firefox).

I can't find a way to map the event when pressing this red button to the predefined mouse events in SlickEdit. On Ubuntu 8, the event is generated from button 8.

This tool is so cool. I have not seen such an editor or IDE like this one.

Hmm .. there is a BackButtonDn event (along with ForwardButtonDn) available at least since v12 and it's bound to back by default.

Thanks for your response but it does not work. I need to map the red button even to this button that SlickEdit defines as back button.

What about using IntelliPoint to assign the 'Back' function to the red button ?

It's always a good idea to attach SE version/OS platform information when posting
However, mouse button remapping in X is also possible. See e.g. this (gentoo) thread.

It's always a good idea to read before making an assumption when responding :-). I already wrote "Ubuntu" and button mapping in X in my first posting.
