View Special Characters causes clipping
« on: August 13, 2008, 02:17:40 pm »

If I enable View > Special Characters, then Italics characters are clipped.

The right-hand portion of italicized letters are cut off by the visible "space" characters.

See the attached screenshot, especially the lowercase "d" and "f". The font here is Lucida Console, but it happens with any font.

Is this a bug, or did I misconfigure something?
Thanks.

I checked with the team, and I'm sorry to say that this is a known limitation. I don't know if this problem is equally sever with all fonts. Can anyone recommend a font that suffers less from this?

I happen to use Bitstream Vera Sans Mono correction - DejaVu Sans Mono and it does not appear to exhibit this behavior.  (Just switched back to Bitstream & no problem).  I'm using 10 point.  Could it be that the font itself is not well suited to italicicizing as a fixed-width font?  Is there an italic version built into the font or does the system bend the font over?

Just thoughts.  Jim
