opening multiple file windows
« on: September 14, 2006, 12:45:09 AM »
Another beginner question that embarasses me to have to ask. I have checked the docs so this is very frustrating.

How can you open more than one file in a window so that they can be viewed simultaneously? I've tried the one file per window in the tools->options->general tab, tried linking a file to a window but how do I open another?

Thanks for your help,
John

I'm not sure if I understand correctly what you want, but have a look in the menu 'Window' and tinker with 'Split horizontally' and/or 'Split vertically'. Depending on your configuration ('one file per window', maybe others), this enables you to have mutiple windows visible at the same time, containing different parts of just one file, or parts of two different files.

HTH,

I did want to two windows to view two different files. I had been playing around with the window->slpit commands. They were splitting the current file only. I finally figured out how to make them display different files.

Thanks for your help.

John, are you trying to "Diff" the files?  If so, use Tools... File Difference... very powerful Difference engine!  If you just want to see two dissimilar files at the same time, this does not apply.

Restore Down and then Window->Tile?

Is the attached picture similar to what you mean?
