rendering of backslash

Slick edit renders the backslash in what looks like some unprintable character. I have tried various fonts and they all have the same rendering of "\". How can I get a backslash to look like a backslash?

You can thank Microsoft for this bug but I know the work around. You need to select a "Script" which is not Default! Try picking "Western". Microsoft seems to reconfiguring the default script when you switch into languages like Japanese.
