VSE Quick Start Configuration Not Saving

Platform: Windows XP Professional

I just upgraded from VSE 10.* to VSE 14.*.

I tried Tools | Quick Start Configuration | Coding  but my choices are not saved.

I tried putting green check marks in the square boxes and clicking so the boxes are completely filled in with green.    My choices aren't saved, even with restarting VSE?

What is the trick?

What is the difference between a checkmark and a solidly filled in box?

Is it better to indent with tabs or spaces?

Thanks in advance

The solidly filled in box indicates that the setting is on a per-language basis. That essentially makes not changes to your settings.

Indenting with spaces is generally considered to be best since it allows people who use different tools to see the code in a consistent manner. Indent with tabs can be useful if you use a proportional font, but that also leads to problems. Unless you have a strong reason to do otherwise, go with spaces.
