SlickEdit 2010 Lock Up (15.0.0.5)
« on: May 03, 2010, 07:09:05 PM »
I have managed to lock up SE 15.0.0.5.

Start SlickEdit with -sc c:\newtemp
Select Emulation
Select Brief Emulation
Click on Finish
ALT-E (open file)
Select Browse for files
Click on OK
Navigate to c:\program files\SlickEditV15.0.0\SampleProjects\ucpp
Select cpp.cpp
Click on Open
F5 (search)
In the Search for: box enter "argv" (without the quotes)
Click on the List all occurrences box (it should be checked)
Click on find
In the search results window Click on argv[] (insuring that the text cursor is somewhere in argv)
CTRL+. (control period) [tag to definition]

SlickEdit is now hung.

Here is my environment:

You are correct, I've confirmed it in 2010 and 2009 as well.  I will file a defect and work on a resolution.  It's stuck in a loop in macro code, you can use Ctrl+Alt+Shift+F2 to break the interpreter for that command.  In the meantime, don't do that.  ;)

Hi,

Is there an hot fix for this issue?
I'm using v15.0.0.6. On which version it is already fixed?

Thanks,
Nir

This was hotfixed in the 15.0.0 release and included in the 15.0.1 release.  If you are running v15.0.0.5 or v15.0.0.6, please upgrade your SlickEdit installation via your Registered Products page.

Hi,

I upgraded to version 15.0.1.3.

Before the upgrade (with version 15.0.0.6), sometimes when editing a macro my slickedit got stuck and closed automatically by windows.
After the upgrade, it is also getting stuck but after a few (or more) seconds it gets out of it.
Is this the expected behavior?

Thanks,
Nir

Hi,

I'm adding some trace information when trying to edit the line

#define TEST_STRING(i) "00"<<i<abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz"<<i<<"ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ"

(I was in the middle of editing the section between the "00" and the "abc...")
Thanks,
Nir

Can you repeat your test while running the Slick-C profiler? That will tell us where the time is being spent. Please attach the resulting profile output.

Here are the instructions from the User Guide:

  • Start the profiler from the SlickEdit command line by typing the following: profile on. Then press Enter.
  • Perform the operations to be measured. Try to include only the steps necessary to produce the problem.
  • Stop the profiler. From the command line, type the following: profile save "<filename>", where <filename> is the name of the file to save to. For example, you could type: profile save "profile.txt".

I'm told that this was fixed in a previous hot fix. Please be sure you have applied the available hot fixes and let us know if you are still having this problem. Thanks!
