Bought a single user license for commercial use?
« on: July 06, 2010, 08:43:22 AM »
I am a employer, my company has another editor's license, i don't like the software my company provides.
After using the trial version of SE, i really like it.

The question is: can i buy a single user license (only for me) for commercial use?

Gilvin,

Yes: SlickEdit offers "Named User" (i.e. single) licenses:

Gilvin,

I've attached the EULA from my SlickEdit 2010 installation for your reference.  [I was surprised that I was unable to locate it on www.SlickEdit.com]

Share & Enjoy,
-Pete

P.S. - For what it's worth, I am using a Named User license to edit commercial code.

Sorry. I'm not sure how I missed this one earlier.

I think the vast majority of our customers use SlickEdit for commercial use. That's assuming that by "commercial use" you mean using it do work you are paid to do. Or did you mean that you want to use SlickEdit in a commercial? Something like, "Nine out of ten people prefer the taste of Soaky Soda to the taste of SlickEdit."

Many of our customers purchase SlickEdit themselves for use where they are employed. Sadly, it can be difficult to talk companies into buying the tools that will make us more productive. So, you are absolutely allowed to purchase a license of SlickEdit and use it at home, at work, or anywhere else you like. The named user license is for one person's use. You can install it on multiple machines as long as you are the only one who uses it.

sorry for bothering again, how much does it cost to have a major upgrade? (eg. 2009->2010)

well......

Something I've griped about in the past is the cost to upgrade is er -  was the same as the full cost.  There was (as I recall) a period when they would offer a license for a discounted price if you had a prior version (reasonably recent.).  I do not know what the current cost is.

I would strongly recommend the maintenance agreement.  It's $60/year (or was when I bought in) and makes the upgrade "free".  I spend the $60 each year (with maintenance) and don't worry about upgrade costs.

Jim.

We do offer a reduce price upgrade if you are within the last 2 versions. After that it's the same as buying a new license.

The price to upgrade depends on the license you are upgrading, but a typical, single-user of Windows, Linux, or Mac is $139 I believe. Call SlickEdit sales to get a quote: 1-800-934-3348.

I'll also second the suggestion about getting on maintenance and support. $60 per year is the cheapest, best way to stay current.

@Scott - I stand corrected and will strive to remember the 2-version thing.  It's appreciated.
