Eclipse Helios (3.6) Support
« on: September 15, 2010, 05:36:23 AM »
What is the status on SlickEdit Core supporting the latest & greatest Eclipse Helios (version 3.6)?  I'd love to see 64bit support since it's now a standard part of the Eclipse build, but at this point I'd settle for 32bit support (with an assurance that 64bit support was on the way  ;))

We are working on Core 3.6.0 right now, and hope to be going to beta sometime in October.  That being said, I believe that Core 3.5.1 works fine in Eclipse 3.6.0...so I don't think there is a compatibility issue with Helios and our existing plugin.

Regarding 64/32bit...Core 3.6.0 will still only be a 32bit product (and only work in a 32bit JVM) :(.  A 64bit version of SlickEdit is high on our priority list for our next SlickEdit release, but until that happens we can't produce a 64bit Eclipse plugin.  So as far as 64bit goes, it's not going to happen until our next major version of Core (3.7.0 or 4.0.0, whatever that happens to be).

Is somebody tried SluckEditCore 3.5.1 on Eclipse 3.6?
What was the result of your test?

Any update on a Beta release date for SlickEditCore 3.6?

Will the following issue with 3.5.x will be resolved in SlickEditCore 3.6:
1) File save option: language specific or global "Save Options" that were disable in 3.5.x.
2) File "Load Options - Expand tabs to spaces".
3) File always store in Unix format (CR only) when "Strip Trailing Space" = TRUE.
4) Eclipse Editor does not keep list of open files when Eclipse is close/start (file outside the workspace).

Will the following change include in SlickEditCore 3.6:
1) Disable SlickEdit Preference / File Options / Load / File locking = True.
2) Enable the native Eclipse spell check in the SlickEdit Editor.

We have installed Core 3.5.1 in Eclipse 3.6 here...and it seems to work fine.

Although I can't say exactly, we are looking to release the new version for beta soon...within this month.

Nothing is set in stone yet, and we don't release what features are to be contained in the next version prior to the release, but I can comment on some of these...

Disable SlickEdit Preference / File Options / Load / File locking = True.

That was fixed in 3.5.1 (if not in 3.5.0, but I checked in 3.5.1).

Enable the native Eclipse spell check in the SlickEdit Editor.

This isn't going to make it for this 3.6.0...we had other major features to get to with higher priority.

File always store in Unix format (CR only) when "Strip Trailing Space" = True.

Fixed.

I'm not sure what you mean about this one.  If I open a non-workspace file via File > Open, and then close Eclipse, that file is still open.  Also, the list of recently opened files at the bottom of the File menu is restored after closing/opening Eclipse.  Could you elaborate on this issue?

Hope this helps,

Ryan
